Sawyer’s character was originally supposed to be an older, dapper, suit-wearing urban con artist from Buffalo, NY. But when Josh Holloway forgot a line during an audition and later kicked a chair and swore loudly in frustration, the writers liked the edge it gave Sawyer’s character and decided to write Sawyer as a more Southern, darker drifter. Jin and Sun are married and share the surname Kwon, which becomes a major plot point in the final season.

It’s amazing how well the series has aged. Seeing it all again made some storylines make a lot more sense. I even think the ending makes a lot more sense now.
